As UFC president Dana White stated over the weekend, it appears that Brock Lesnar will not be returning to MMA. The former UFC heavyweight champion has re-signed with the WWE for another two years. PWInsider has the news:
WWE and Brock Lesnar have come to terms for a new two year deal. Lesnar will be locked in to the company through Wrestlemania 31.
Lesnar’s current existing deal was set to expire at Wrestlemania 29.
Lesnar (5-3) was apparently close to returning to the UFC at one point. He met with Dana White after UFC 146 in regards to a possible comeback, but White said the meeting “couldn’t have gone worse”. This past weekend though, White admitted that wasn’t true and the meeting did go well. Lesnar was apparently in negotiations to fight heavyweight legend Fedor Emelianenko in a stadium show, but Fedor backed out when his father died. That apparently killed Lesnar’s interest as well.
Now that Lesnar has signed an extension with WWE that runs until he’s almost 38, a return to MMA seems very unlikely. Lesnar did not appear at the Royal Rumble last night, which is traditionally one of the biggest WWE shows of the year. He has been off TV for a while now, but the extension probably means he’ll return to the storylines as soon as tonight.
