A featherweight title has been added to the welterweight-centric UFC 158 in Montreal, as Darren Elkins and Antonio Carvalho look to build their respective winning streaks this March. UFC Canada confirmed the news on Twitter:
Elkins (15-2) is 4-0 at featherweight, all via unanimous decision. He debuted at 145 in June 2011 against Michihiro Omigawa, and last fought at UFC 154 also in Montreal) against Steven Siler. His grinding style has been hard for opponents to crack and a 5th successive win could see him get a major step up in competition.
Carvalho (15-5) dropped his debut to Felipe Arantes at UFC 142, but he rebounded with a beautiful KO of Daniel Pineda at UFC 149, and then a split decision over Rodrigo Damm at UFC 154. He has a 5-1 record at 145 lbs and the Canada-native is set for his 3rd consecutive Canadian-based show.
UFC 158 is on March 16th, with the main card airing live on PPV, and the prelims on FX and Facebook. It is likely that this fight will be on the FX preliminary card.
