Back at UFC On Fuel 4, Middleweight Chris Weidman beat down Mark Munoz in one of the most dominating victories of the year. The win marked Weidman’s second consecutive top-10 win and gave him one of the strongest cases for a title shot in the division. However, Chris got hamstrung by appearing on a card that many fans didn’t see, making it harder to market him as a challenger.
He watched the next expected challenger lose a decision at UFC 149 where hector Lombard lost a decision to Tim Boetsch. He watched another opportunity pass him by when Michael Bisping was promised a shot with a win over Vitor Belfort at Saturday night’s UFC On FX 7. Luckily for Wiedman, Bisping lost that fight via TKO in the second round.

Weidman was expected to fight unlikely top-5er Tim Boetsch at UFC 155. However, a month before the bout, Weidman was forced out due to a torn labrum. He underwent corrective surgery and expected to be back at 100% near the end of March. Silva last defended his title against Chael Sonnen in July at UFC 148.
