Many pundits thought that if Michael Bisping could get his UFC on FX 7 bout with Vitor Belfort into the later rounds, he’d have a better chance of winning. Unfortunately for him, he wasn’t able to do it. After getting hurt at the end of the first round but surviving, Bisping was dropped by a Belfort head kick early in round two and he got pounded out with hammerfists. The finish came at 1:27 of round 2.
The fight got off to a very measured start. Bisping was more active in the first couple of minutes but didn’t land anything appreciable. Belfort started to open up a bit more with his hands, but Bisping did a good job of avoiding anything damaging. Bisping took a poke in the eye but didn’t want a break. Belfort landed a big right and a solid kick to the body that had Bisping begging off, but he was fully recovered before the horn. Belfort might have stolen the round.
Belfort kept his hands down for long stretches early in round two, making it obvious that he was looking to counter Bisping’s strikes. Then out of nowhere, Belfort landed a high kick that floored Bisping. He followed up with some brutal ground and pound that earned the stoppage, and killed Bisping’s title hopes once again.
