Gabriel Gonzaga didn’t look amazing in his UFC on FX 7 bout with Ben Rothwell tonight, but he got the job done. After a tepid first round, Napao took advantage of a Rothwell mistake early in the second and latched on a guillotine that forced Rothwell to submit. The finish came at the 1:01 of round two.
Gonzaga (14-6) looked for a takedown not long after the start of the fight, but Rothwell did a good job of fighting it off. Gonzaga was able to land a few straight rights, but the two men did a lot of standing around and staring at each other for most of the first round.
The second round saw Gonzaga connect with another couple of rights and after a little while, he snatched up a guillotine and dropped to his back. Rothwell fought to get out, but he stuck and was forced to tap out.
The win was Gonzaga’s second in a row in the UFC and third overall, while Rothwell (32-9) dropped to 2-3 in the UFC.
