The UFC closed out 2012 with their annual New Year’s weekend pay-per-view. The UFC 155 main event featured Cain Velaquez taking 25 minutes to win back the Heavyweight title from Junior Dos Santos in destructive fashion. Before that, Lightweights Jim Miller and Joe Lauzon put on a Fight of the Night performance where Lauzon spent the majority of the bout with blood streaming down his face.

Although the Middleweight fights that night weren’t that impressive, the UFC did very solid numbers at the gate. Kevin Iole reported the numbers Monday afternoon:

The last time the UFC put on an event in the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV, was UFC 148 and they had record breaking numbers with a gate of $6.5 million. That event featured the most watched PPV of the year in the rematch between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen. Even though it fell short of those impressive numbers, UFC 155 was on par with last year’s final event UFC 141. 13,793 fans came out to watch Alistair Overeem TKO Brock Lesnar for a gate of $3.1 million.
