UFC 158 is not short on welterweight matchups, because that’s literally the only weight class on the card so far. Yesterday evening UFC officials announced another Strikeforce fighter making his promotional debut, as 23-year-old Albertan Jordan Mein takes on Dan Miller on March 16th. From the official website:

UFC 158 has added a fifth welterweight bout to its powerhouse roster of 170-pounders as Canadian Jordan “Young Gun” Mein has verbally agreed to make his UFC debut against 11-time UFC veteran Dan Miller, a New Jersey native known for his toughness.

Miller, a steady gatekeeper at middleweight, made the drop to welterweight early last year against Ricardo Funch. While not dominant, Miller did hurt Funch in the final round and locked in a guillotine choke for the win. He was scheduled to fight Sean Pierson at UFC 152, but pulled out to be with his son, who underwent a successful kidney transplant operation.

Mein may be 23, but he’s fought professionally since 16 and has kept an active schedule throughout his career, compiling a 26-8 pro record to go with his 6-1 amateur mark. He holds wins over the likes of Joe Riggs, Marius Zaromskis, Evangelista Santos, and most recently Forrest Petz. His pro debut back in 2006 — a submission loss — was to none other than current WW contender Rory MacDonald.

If you’re keeping count, that’s five welterweight fights scheduled for this event. The main event of GSP vs. Nick Diaz, the co-main of Carlos Condit vs. Rory MacDonald, Johny Hendricks vs. Jake Ellenberger, Patrick Cote vs. Bobby Voelker, and now this fight.
