UFC capped off 2012 with a title change as Cain Velasquez took the Heavyweight title from Junior dos Santos. Velasquez won the belt with a dominating unanimous decision victory, 50-45, 50-44, 50-43. Cain is now a two time Heavyweight champion with an 11-1 record. Cigano suffers his first UFC loss and is now 15-2.
After a one minute KO in their first fight, many expected JDS to once again use his power to stop Cain. But that wasn’t the case at all. Instead, Velasquez pushed the pace with his wrestling and cardio to dominate nearly every second of the 25 minute fight. It’s a surprise that dos Santos was even able to get through the fight, as he took a severe beating in the early rounds. An incredible performance from the new champion.
What was the high spot of this fight?
Pretty much the entire first round. From Cain’s early aggression to his beautiful overhand right late in the round, this was a gorgeous display of domination.
Where do these guys go from here?
The logical next challenger for Velasquez is former top contender Alistair Overeem, though The Reem may be facing Antonio Silva first. There’s also Fabricio Werdum, though that fight would have to wait until fall.

Velasquez came back from his loss, now it’s dos Santos’s turn to try the same. He needs a rebound fight next, and Velasquez teammate Daniel Cormier seems like a perfect choice.
Watch it now, later, or never?
Now. Maybe it gets a bit slow in the last two rounds, but this is an awesome performance well worth your time.
