Result: Shinya Aoki def. Antonio McKee by Submission (Verbal, following a punch), R2

On one of the feature bouts of the MMA portion of the merged DREAM 18 – GLORY 4 card, lightweight star Shinya Aoki took on high level wrestler and one time UFC veteran, Antonio McKee.

The charismatic American fighter in McKee has long been proud of his high caliber wrestling skills, and the former MFC champion promised an entertaining bout during the lead up on his bout against the submission artist in Aoki. He was unable to win though, and Aoki was able to get a rare victory with his striking skills.

During the opening round, Aoki immediately shot for the takedown and clinched up with the American fighter. After a brief scramble, Aoki was impressively able to drag him to the ground and get top control against a high caliber wrestler. McKee was able to get up after a few moments, then he decided to pick Aoki up and land a huge slam. McKee engaged with him on the ground once again, this time inside the Japanese fighter’s guard. As they went back standing, both fighters each land a kick of their own, before clinching up once again. It’s a bit of a stalemate on the clinch and the round ended on that position.

On the second round, it was very different Shinya Aoki immediately landed a big right hook to the face, and McKee got hurt and immediately tapped. McKee’s eye seemed to be damaged after the huge punch, and that spelled the end of the fight.

Prior to the contest, one of Japan’s biggest stars in Aoki had won eight of his last nine bouts, with his lone loss coming from Eddie Alvarez in Bellator. Once had an 8-year unbeaten streak, McKee on the other hand has now won 3 straight fights since Jacob Volkmann ended that streak on his one and only UFC fight against .
