Paul Daley has been charged with assault in Britain and removed from the upcoming Bellator Welterweight tournament. Daley, an MMA veteran whose resume includes bouts for the UFC and Strikeforce had been among the highest profile fighters on the Bellator roster.

ESPN’s Josh Gross reported the news that Daley has been charged with assault following an altercation in a bar and is barred from entering the United States. He is looking at up to two years in prison.

The 29-year-old Daley was booted from the UFC for throwing a punch at Josh Koscheck after the end of their UFC 113 bout in 2010. He signed with Bellator earlier this year and is 1-0 with the promotion. At one point he was slated to face War Machine (aka Jon Koppenhaver) in a fight chosen by fans but an injury to War Machine had already post-poned that bout for six months.
