The main event of UFC On FX 6 pitted TUF: The Smashes coaches Ross Pearson and George Sotiropoulos against each other. Representing the UK team, Pearson made his returned to Lightweight after a 1-1 run at 145 lbs. Australia’s Sotiropoulos was eyeing contention back in 2010 with an 8-fight win streak before giving up back-to-back losses to Dennis Siver and Rafael Dos Anjos.
The TUF coaches started out slow. Pearson was wary about getting inside and letting Sotiropoulos get the takedown. Then Pearson landed with a big 1-2 that had G-Sot rocked. Pearson tried to follow up but Sotiropoulos able to recover in the clinch. Back to striking from range and Pearson hit a leg kick that swept Sot to the mat. Sot grabbed a late takedown that led to back control. Pearson able to survive the last 30 seconds.
The submission scare looked to have Pearson scared of getting in close in the second. Both fighters traded punches, G-sot’s boxing looked much improved. Pearson landed a big left hook that put Sotiropoulos down. Pearson showed no desire to follow him to the ground. Pearson got his confidence back after that and outstuck him to finish the round.
Pearson lands big early in the third with the left hook again. G-Sot recovered, but it wouldn’t last long. On last time he lands perfectly with the left hand and the referee stepped in to make the stop. Ross Pearson TKO’s George Sotiropoulos at 0:41 of the third round.
