After failing to put the fight on DREAM 17: Fight for Japan card last year, officials have re-booked the lightweight bout between Shinya Aoki and Antonio McKee (28-4-2).
As announced today, the lightweight bout will be on the MMA portion of the DREAM 18 – GLORY 4 mega card for New Year’s Eve in Japan.
Aoki was earlier thought to be facing an undefeated yet relatively unknown prospect in Will Brooks, when the American started tweeting about the bout. As told by Aoki’s camp when word first went out though, the fight was far from being finalized, and it looks like both sides decided to go with the fight against the UFC veteran and former MFC champion instead.
Aoki was last seen rebounding from a tough loss against Eddie Alvarez by choking out Arnaud Lepont unconscious at ONE FC 6. McKee on the other hand, is currently riding a 3 fight win-streak since losing a very close decision to Jacob Volkmann in his one and only UFC bout.
Check out the current fight card for this NYE special which is shaping up nicely.
