After an aborted attempt back in May, the UFC had decided to go back to a pretty good heavyweight matchup for their next card in Japan. Stefan Struve will face off with The Super Samoan, Mark Hunt at UFC on Fuel 8. MMA Weekly has the news:
A heavyweight fight has been confirmed for the UFC’s return to Japan as Stefan Struve will likely face off with Mark Hunt.
Sources close to the fight confirmed to MMA Weekly that verbal agreements are in place for the contest landing at Saitama Super Arena on March 2.
Struve (25-5) has won four fights in a row in the octagon, most recently defeating Stipe Miocic by TKO at UFC on Fuel 5 in September. He is 9-3 overall in the UFC and has picked up five performance bonuses along the way. Hunt (8-7) has won three in a row, most recently finishing Cheick Kongo via strikes in the first round last February in Japan.
It’s unclear where on the card the bout will be, but my guess would be either the co-main or main event.
