Josh Barnett will indeed be competing one last time in Strikeforce after all. He has been added to the main card of the Strikeforce: Champions card on January 12th, but his opponent is someone you’ve likely never heard of – Nandor Guelmino. MMA Junkie has the news:
Sources close to the fighters today told MMA Junkie that Barnett (31-6 MMA, 2-1 SF) is targeted to meet fellow heavyweight Nandor Guelmino (11-3-1 MMA, 0-0 SF) on the Showtime-televised main card of “Strikeforce: Champions.”
Barnett is coming off a loss to fellow Champions main carder Daniel Cormier in the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix finals back in May. Both men broke their hands in the fight, which is why Barnett has been out for so long. His opponent is a total mystery. The 36-year-old Austrian is on a seven-fight winning streak, but hasn’t beaten anyone of note. He has lost to the only two recognizable guys he has fought, Andreas Kraniotakes and Semmy Schilt.
With Cormier meeting Dion Staring and Barnett meeting this guy on the main card, it’s pretty clear that Strikeforce’s “stacked” event isn’t living up to expectations.
