UFC Heavyweight Roy Nelson made waves back in October when he announced that he and fellow TUF 16 coach Shane Carwin would be participating in VADA drug testing for their December bout. Of course, the press release failed to mention that Carwin had never agreed to the testing program. When Carwin didn’t sign up, Nelson entered the program on his own.
Now, with Shane out due to knee injury, Nelson is extending the invitation to his new opponent Matt Mitrione:
Mittrione has yet to respond to Nelson, but that doesn’t say much as he hasn’t posted anything since Tuesday. Although not to the same extreme, this move by Nelson is very similar to what he did Shane Carwin. By proposing VADA testing on a public forum, he puts a lot of pressure on Mitrione to accept the offer. If Matt declines, many fans will question his motives for refusing.
Either way, Roy Nelson and Matt Mitrione will meet at the The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale on December 15th. The event will take place in The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV.
