While any have been spending the last two days gorging themselves on turkey and daring the Black Friday sales, the weekend took a bad turn for former UFC Lightweight Dennis Hallman. Sadly, early Thursday morning Hallman’s house caught fire and burned to the ground.
Hallman explained via his Facebook account:
Sad thanksgiving for me and my family. My house burned down early this AM. Thank God no one was hurt and I have that to be thankful for. Something like this makes my recent direction change all the harder…the one person that could make me feel okay about everything is no longer here. When God wants you to have a fresh start sometimes he really wants to make his point clear.
Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting contacted Hallman on Friday afternoon:
“They think it was an electrical (fire),” he said. “I lost everything. Extra sad, but the good thing is nobody was hurt.
“I’m waiting for the insurance company to find me a house to stay in while my house gets rebuilt. Until then, I am at my parents.”
Hallman was released from the UFC following an unsuccessful weigh-in at UFC On FX 5. He had been scheduled to face Thiago Tavares but came in overweight. He explained to UFC president Dana White that he was going through serious personal issues at the time. White agreed to pay him his win and show money for the fight before releasing him from the company. He has not yet signed with another promotion.
