Earlier this year, Ole Laursen notched the biggest win of his MMA career after a highly entertaining back and forth war against Eduard Folayang. Unfortunately, the ONE FC star wasn’t able to follow up on that instant classic, and has been on the shelf for quite some time now.
The Filipino-Danish fighter has already booked his next fight, but it looks like it won’t be in Mixed Martial Arts. The former Muay Thai champ announced that on March, which is roughly a year since his last ONE FC bout, he will be getting off the bench and will be making a return to his kickboxing roots.
After earning numerous Muay Thai accolades during his 20’s, the 35-year-old fighter has successfully made the jump to MMA, establishing himself as a legitimate contender in the Asian MMA scene. He won’t be getting a tune up fight when he makes his kickboxing return though. As a matter of fact, he will be heading out to Italy for a K-1 rules bout against one of the best and most technical kickboxers today in Giorgio Petrosyan.
The 26-year-old, highly decorated champion in Petrosyan is unbeaten in the past 6 years, and recently added a Glory title to his collection after coming out on top of their one night, 8-man tournament.
Oddsmakers are likely to have the Petrosyan as a favorite, but their contrasting fighting styles make for an interesting match up. Laursen has never been one to back away from a fight, but can this MMA star based out of Boracay pull off the upset? I guess we’ll find out on March 2nd.
UPDATE – Laursen spoke to MMAOpinion about the fight:
“The good thing is that it has brought me to the fight with Giorgio. I’m a fan of his, as are most around the world. I know there aren’t many who will give me a chance in this fight, but I believe in myself.”
“I’m fighting the man that has beat the best of the best. As crazy as it sounds I’m fighting for the chance to beat him, and it would be fucking amazing.”
