Erick Silva vs. Jay Hieron set for UFC 156

At UFC 153, Welterweight Erick Silva took a big jump up in competition when he faced off against the division’s former longstanding #2 Jon Fitch. Unfortunately for Silva, Fitch’s Guerilla Jiu Jitsu was too much for him too handle. Silva did see some success in the second round when he locked on a tight rear naked choke, but Fitch was able to survive. By the end of the 3rd Fitch had him mounted, landing unanswered blows for the last 90 seconds of the fight to secure the unanimous decision.

Wednesday afternoon UFC Brasil‘s official Twitter account announced Erick Silva’s chance to recover from that loss:

After becoming a casualty of the UFC 151 debacle, Jay Hieron made his return to the promotion in a losing effort against Jake Ellenberger at UFC On FX 5. He was originally cut from the UFC after a TKO (cut) loss to Jonathan Goulet at UFC Fight Night 2. He went 15-3 in the meantime with his biggest accomplishment a close fight against Bellator’s welterweight champ Ben Askren that many thought Hieron should have won.
