It’s no secret that the UFC is looking to make it’s first super fight since UFC 94 in 2013. All the talk leading up to UFC 154 revolved around the potential fight between returning Welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre and Middleweight champ Anderson Silva. Now that St. Pierre has picked up the unanimous decision victory over former interim champion Carlos Condit, the super fight is a real possibility.
As he promised before the event, UFC president Dana White intends to make this happen. Ron Kruck of AXS TV got Dana’s plan for making the fight happen (via MMA Mania):
The division is stacked. Johny Hendricks looked awesome tonight, again. Everyone wants to see this ‘GSP’ vs. Anderson Silva fight. I’m gonna give Georges 10 days to rest, relax and regroup, and we’ll get together. We’re probably gonna fly out and talk to Anderson [Silva] next week, and then I’ll get together with Georges in a couple weeks.
The potentiality of a super fight opens venue possibilities that the UFC has been aiming at for some time. Before UFC 154, Dana specified that he’d want GSP/Silva to take place in May at a stadium in either Dallas, Toronto, or Brazil. He clarifies here that the UFC’s hometown of Las Vegas, NV is not out of the question either:
All three of those are options. As we sit down, and we start to negotiate, I think that Dallas, Texas Stadium will make the most sense, because it’s neutral. But you can’t rule out Las Vegas, either. You really can’t rule out Las Vegas. It’s a destination where people wanna go and hang out for a weekend.
We’ve heard a lot of conflicting stories in the past weeks regarding this fight. Anderson Silva has been relatively consistent saying he wants to fight Georges. On the other hand, St. Pierre and his camp has mostly questioned at what weight the fight would be fought. Even though there’s still plenty of questions to be answered, it seems Dana White is going to make his best effort to deliver “the fight the fans want.”
