UFC looking to book Anthony Pettis vs. Donald Cerrone for January, maybe on UFC on Fox 6

The UFC has been trying to book Lightweight contenders (and WEC veterans) Anthony Pettis and Donald Cerrone for a title elimination match for a while. According to a report by MMA Junkie they might finally have gotten it done. The UFC is aiming to feature the fight in a January event, possibly in Chicago, possibly UFC on Fox 6.

The two had been booked for UFC 150 in Denver in August but that bout was cancelled with Pettis pulled up with a shoulder injury. Cerrone has been vocal that Pettis is ducking him. Junkie caught the back and forth:

“Every time I suggest it, his manager comes back and says, ‘Well, maybe ‘Cowboy’ could fight somebody else right now,’ and it’s just this excuse to not fight,” he said.

Pettis’ camp disputed that claim and said the fighter would be ready to fight Cerrone, especially if a title shot were on the line.

“Anthony is running for whoever has got the belt, and unfortunately for ‘Cowboy,’ it’s never been him,” Pettis’ manager, Mike Roberts, said.

Hopefully Pettis will be fully healed in time for the bout which should see the winner emerge with a shot at the title.
