One of the most anticipated fights of the night was the MMA debut of Heavyweight kickboxer Tyrone Spong. For his first MMA bout Spong trained with Rashad Evans and the Blackzillians and decided to make the cut to Light Heavyweight. The Dutch kickboxer has a reputation as an incredibly hard hitter. His opponent Travis Bartlett had a significant edge in experience with 9 fights and a 7-2 record. However, that wasn’t nearly enough to save him from Spong’s devastating striking. It’ll be really interesting to see where Spong goes from here.
Spong came out confident from the start and landed a huge head kick only about a minute into the fight. Bartlett was able to recover when Spong didn’t follow him to the ground. From there on Bartlett was tentative and hesitant as he ate monster shots from Tyrone. Finally, in just over 3 minutes Spong put him out with a huge right hand. Spong walked off while waiting for the 8-count.
