The all women’s MMA promotion returns to action against tonight with Invicta FC 3: Penne vs. Sugiyama. The headlining bout between Atomweights Jessica Penne and Naho Sugiyama features the promotion’s first ever title fight. Penne is coming into the championship fight off a 3rd round TKO over Lisa Ellis at Invicta’s first event back in April. This will be Sugiyama’s first fight with the company after going undefeated in 8 fights in Japan. In the co-main event, Shayna Baszler will square off against Sarah D’Alelio in Bantamweight action.
Yesterday, all 28 ladies hit the scales to make their bouts official at the weigh-ins. Everyone but Lacey Schuckman and Tara LaRosa made weight on their first attempt. Schuckman came in 1.2 lbs over the 105 lb. Atomweight limit. She was was able to lose the extra fraction of a pound and make weight on a follow up attempt. Schuckman was fined 10% of her purse for missing weight on her first attempt. LaRosa weighed in 2 lbs over the Flyweight limit fight and was unable to cut the excess weight. Her opponent Vanessa Porto gained weight to meet her at 127 lbs. LaRosa was fined 25% of her purse.
Ediane Gomes and Katalina Malungahu kick off the action in their Feather weight fight. The event starts at 7 pm EST (4 pm PST) from the Memorial Hall in Kansas City, KS.
