After Matt Hughes posted pictures of himself posing with numerous dead animals on an African hunting trip, a bit of a debate erupted among MMA fans and some fighters about Hughes’ hunting practices. Among those most critical of the former welterweight champ’s love of killing animals is Dan Hardy.
The topic came up in England when speaking to the press ahead of Saturday’s UFC on Fuel TV 5 card and Hardy had the following to say to Fighters Only:
“I don’t really understand how you fly out to Africa, look out on the savannah, look at those animals and go ‘You know, I want to kill that…I can’t make sense of that in my head. For someone who’s a self-proclaimed good-guy Christian, it just doesn’t calculate. He’s getting his morals mixed up somewhere. He really needs to have a look at himself and question what he’s doing.”
This goes pretty well in hand with Hardy’s previous comments that Hughes’ love of killing animals is some sort of “cure for impotence.”
I have to say, personally, I’m in the Hardy camp here. I can’t understand going to a different continent, seeing all kinds of natural beauty and wildlife and then remember “oh yeah, I’m here to kill that.”
For his part, Dana White didn’t have much of an opinion on the hunting, saying “I’m not into shooting animals, either,” White said. “I’m not a hunter. I’m not into that stuff at all. But if that’s what you’re into…”
