UFC 152 Results Recap: Marcus Brimage Vs Jim Hettes

Opening up the televised portion of UFC 152 on FX, Featherweight Marcus Brimage took a unanimous decision over Jim Hettes. Brimage set the tone early in the first round. He continually landed hard counter punches and even dropped Hettes at one point. Hettes had little answer for Brimage’s sprawl and brawl and kept plodding forward as he ate strikes. He did find enough success in the second round to take a round on the judges scorecards. In the end, Brimage rallied back in the third to win the fight.

Although he’s lacking finishes, no one can deny that Brimage has put together an impressive run since coming out of the season 14 TUF house. He’s now 3-0 in the UFC (6-1 Overall). This definitely a speedbump for Hettes, however and he falls to 2-1 in the UFC (10-1 Overall).

What was the high point of the fight?

The right hand that dropped Hettes in the first round. Jim “The Kid” had a ton of hype going into this fight after completely dominating Nam Phan in his last outing. For a few seconds it seemed like that hype train was going to completely derail.

Where do they go from here?

With wins over the likes Hettes and Maximo Blanco, it’s time for Marcus Brimage to jump into a fight with a top 15 Featherweight. This was a big win for Brimage as he was coming off a rather lackluster split decision win against Blanco. A match against the winner of Bart Palaszewski vs. Diego Nunes at UFC On FX 5 should show who’s ready to move into the top of the division.

Jom Hettes’ loss was a very anticlimactic way to follow up his incredible performance against Nam Phan at UFC 151. Hettes had a ton of steam behind him and looked like he could be a contender in the near future. From here, he’s going to have to regroup and build back that momentum. In his next fight, Hettes should face Dustin Poirier, who will also be looking to recover from a loss to Chan Sung Jung.

Watch it now, never, or later?

Watch it later. Overall, it was a fun back-and-forth fight, but there are better performances from UFC 152 to check out first.
