Road FC 009 happened on Saturday night in Korea, and the country’s biggest promotion delivered with an exciting night of fights. The card had dual-main events with established MMA stars such as Melvin Manhoef and Ikuhisa Minowa or Minowaman picking up wins over their Korean counterparts.

As a treat for fans in the region, the card also saw highly relevant bouts as they hosted a lightweight tournament with some of the region’s top rising stars picking up quality wins to advance to the semifinals of the Grand Prix.

The videos of the main card have been released by Sherdog, so check them out along with gifs and analysis below.

First off, the headlining bout, Melvin Manhoef vs. Jae Young Kim:

The fight ended up as a very entertaining scrap for 15 minutes with Manhoef taking a split decision. I highly encourage you to watch the entire fight, but as always, Zombie Prophet has gifs to get you up to date in case you can’t view the clips:

Next up, Minowaman vs. Jin Soo Yuk, where the DREAM Super Hulk champion takes yet another submission victory:

Gif of the last second submission that was locked up as the bell rang to end the first round:

As for the lightweight tournament which was the real treat for Asian MMA fans, 3 of the top lightweight rising stars from the region advanced to the semis with quality victories.

Lightweight Tournament Quarterfinals: Takasuke Kume vs. Chang Hyun Kim Video.

Kume, who is a teammate of UFC contender, Hatsu Hioki, extended his dominant win streak that has seen him win 8 fights which all came by submission. As you see on the gif below, the Japanese fighter lands a good combination which drops his Korean opponent with a right. Shortly after Kume displayed a glimpse of his feared grappling skills as he immediately circles to the back of Kim, and chokes him out.

The finish happened at the 3:27 mark of round 1, and Kume advances to the semifinals and states his case as one of the top lightweights you should keep an eye out for.

Lightweight Tournament Quarterfinals: Vuyisile Colossa vs. Seok Mo Kim Video

Also one of the top prospects based in Asia, Muay Thai champion Vuyisile Colossa destroyed fellow ONE FC veteran in Seok Mo Kim during the latter parts of the first round. Colossa has always been one of the most feared strikers in the region, but he has also been shoring up his MMA game working with multiple BJJ black belts since joining the prestigious EPIC MMA Club in Hong Kong. His only losses are decisions to Eduard Folayang and Nam Yui Chul, and as he moves on in this tournament, he may get a chance at redemption against the Korean.

Lightweight Tournament Quarterfinals: Nam Yui Chul vs. Masahiro Toryu Video

Nam Yui Chul (14-4), a former top Legend FC contender, and one of Korea’s top lightweights dished out a quick beating on his Japanese opponent, knocking him out cold with a barrage of punches in a little over a minute.

Lightweight Tournament Quarterfinals: Yong Jae Lee vs. Won Gi Kim Video

Yong Jae Lee of Korea won his third straight bout after a back and forth war against Won Gi Kim. During the third round of this brawl, Lee landed a well placed body kick that dropped Kim, and he followed up with a few punches which ended the fight and won him a slot on the next round.

After these fights the 4 fighters who advanced to the semis are Takasuke Kume (14-1), Vuyisile Colossa (5-2), Nam Yui Chul (14-4), and Yong Jae Lee (7-3).

Nam, Kume and Colossa are the three big names and favorites coming in to this tournament, and with Nam already holding a decision win over Colossa, it would be very interesting to see how these guys get matched up on the next round.

Overall, it was a pretty good night of fights, and while these videos weren’t streamed live, it’s nice to see them actually moving towards showing these to a bigger international audience. They have top notch fighters and a very good production quality to go with it, so it’s great to see them finally marketing their event outside of Korea.
