In the aftermath of yesterday’s disastrous news that injuries had forced Jose Aldo out of the main event and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson out of the co-main the UFC is moving quickly to rebuild the card. First up, earlier rumors that Middleweights Wanderlei Silva and Chael Sonnen would be meeting in the main event have been debunked by Sonnen’s manager per Ariel Helwani.
Secondly, former Lightweight champ Frankie Edgar, who was slated to fight Aldo for the Featherweight title will not be on the card at all per MMA Fighting.

Finally we have one bit of very positive news. Heavyweights Antonio Rodrigo “Big Nog” Nogueira and Dave “Pee Wee” Herman will be meeting in the co-main event. The fight was initially reported by Tatame.com’s Guilherme Cruz on Twitter and confirmed by Ariel Helwani for MMA Fighting.
Nogueira has not fought since Frank Mir snapped his arm at UFC 140. Nog had been set to face Cheick Kongo at UFC 149 but had to pull out due to his broken arm not being fully healed. Herman is riding a two-fight losing streak, most recently getting KTFO’d by Roy Nelson at UFC 146.
No word on what the new main event of the card will be. Stay tuned to Bloody Elbow for updates.
