Last night, Tachi Palace Fights 14: Validation saw two champions win their first title defenses. Bantamweight Champion Ian Loveland closed the event with quick and decisive TKO victory over Californian Casey Olson. Olson held out for only a short 38 seconds before succumbing to Loveland’s violent onslaught. It was Loveland’s first defense of the title he picked up at TPF13 with a knock out win over Alexander Crispim.
In the co-main event, Georgi Karakhanyan made his title defense with a Unanimous Decision victory over Micah Miller. Although, Miller managed to stay in the fight for the full 25 minutes, he was unable to take a single round from Karakhanyan on any of the judges’ scorecards. Karakhanyan made his Tachi Palace debut back in April where he knocked out Isaac DeJesus to win the Featherweight championship.
Despite the back to back title fights, the action at TPF 14 was repeatedly marred by the poor officiating of referee Marcos Rosales. As Dallas Winston pointed out in the live results post, Rosales failed to stop the action in several of the fights he refereed. Most notably, he completely botched two calls in the Andre Fili vs. Ricky Wallace bout. Late in the first round, Fili had Wallace reeling. He continued to strike Wallace who offered up no defense. Rosales chose to let the round finish and a visibly dazed and disoriented Wallace was assisted to his corner between rounds. On top of that, when Fili locked in a tight armbar after further battering Wallace, Rosales stopped the fight before there was even a sign of a tap. It’s very hard to give Marcos Rosales the benefit of the doubt here. However, since he has a solid record as a referee, we’ll hope there’s never a repeat of last night’s performance.
In other news, Hulk Hogan’s nephew David Bollea lost his second consecutive fight with Tachi Palace. Zeth Martin finished him with strikes just under a minute into the second round. The lesser Hulk’s record dropped to 3-2.
