An all-Canadian lightweight battle has been added to UFC 154 in Montreal, and it promises to be a near exclusive stand-up battle. Crowd favorite Sam Stout faces John Makdessi in the UFC’s first card in Quebec since 2010. The news was first broken by the Canadian Press:
Sam (Hands of Stone) Stout will face John (The Bull) Makdessi in an all-Canadian lightweight matchup at UFC 154 in Montreal.
The mixed martial arts show is scheduled for Nov. 17 at the Bell Centre with an expected main event featuring welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre and interim title-holder Carlos Condit.
Stout (18-7-1, 7-6 UFC) is nicknamed “Hands of Stone” but has finished a grand total of 1 fight in his UFC career out of 7 wins. In fact, he’s gone the distance 11 out of 13 times in the UFC. He recently won his trilogy fight with Spencer Fisher via unanimous decision at UFC on FX 4 earlier this June. The Ontario native has won 3 out of his last 4 and has racked up 4 FOTN bonuses in the UFC.
Makdessi (9-2 MMA, 2-2 UFC) is a kickboxing and taekwondo specialist who is possibly facing the chopping block if he loses again. After his flashy striking beat Pat Audinwood and Kyle Watson (the latter via spinning backfist KO) Makdessi was submitted by Dennis Hallman and dropped a decision to Anthony Njokuani. The 27-year-old also missed weight by 3 lbs against Njokuani.
It is unknown where this bout will be placed, but it will likely be on the FX preliminary card.
