Two weeks ago, Bantamweight fighter Tyson Nam scored a big win over Bellator FC champion Eduardo Dantas. The two met at Shooto Brazil 33: Fight For BOPE where Nam knocked out “Dudu” Dantas early in the first round. According to Nam’s trainer Phil Claud (via MMA Junkie), the impressive win gave a big bump to his fighter’s stock amongst major MMA promotions.

Unfortunately for Tyson Nam, Bellator seems intent on thwarting his other opportunities. Claud explained that this past summer, Bellator had contracted Nam as a late replacement for Rodrigo Lima at Bellator 64 back in April. However, when Lima was cleared to compete against Hiroshi Nakamura, Nam was pulled from the fight. They then promised him a fight in the season 7 tournament, before once again withdrawing the offer. Additionally, according to Claud, they released him from his contract at the same time.

Now, with Tyson’s win over their champion, it seems Bellator once again thinks he’s a valuable commodity. As Claud is fielding offers from competing promotions, Bellator is invoking their right to match the competitor’s offers. Like many other MMA promotions, Bellator includes a “matching clause” in their contracts that obligate a fighter to re-sign if they’re able to match a competitor’s offer. They’re trying to use this clause by offering Tyson Nam another shot to compete in the next Bantamweight tournament.

With two recent failed promises and the lack of guaranteed action in the tournament format, Nam’s trainer does not think Bellator is providing an offer of equal value. Additionally, he assured that some of the promotions interested in signing Nam are willing to offer their legal services. Finally, Claud assured that he has no issue with Bellator as a company. He simply takes issue with their offered contract and inability to guarantee an active schedule.

After the jump, check out how Tyson Nam finished Eduardo Dantas.
