Tonight on MTV 2, Bellator Fighting Championship concluded their 2012 Summer Series in an action packed night of fights. Bellator 73 crowned two new tournament winners and number 1 contenders. In the Light Heavyweight main event, Attila Vegh knocked out Travis Wiuff in the first exchange of the bout. It took the Bantamweights in the co-main event a little longer, but Marcos Galvao was able to earn his title shot after pounding out Luis Nogueira late in the second round.
Light Heavyweight Tournament Final: Attila Vegh knocked out Travis Wiuff just 27 seconds into Round 1
In the main event, Travis Wiuff expected to earn an official title fight against champion Christian M’Pumbu who he defeated last fall at Bellator 55 in a non-title bout. Attila Vegh had other plans, though. Vegh may have earned his finalist position by a thin margin with 2 of his 3 tournament bouts going to split decision, but he solidified his contendership with a quick, violent victory tonight. After a brief time circling each other, Attila unleashed a powerful left uppercut, right hook combination that sent Wiuff to the mat. He followed up with some obligatory ground and pound to finish the bout in just under 30 seconds. Attila Vegh will challenge Christane M’Pumbu for the Light Heavyweight title at a future Bellator event.
Bantamweight Tournament Final: Marcos Galvao def. Luis Nogueira via TKO, Round 2 (4:20)
Battling for the chance to fight Eduardo Dantas, Marcos Galvao came out against Luis Nogueira with something to prove. From the opening bell, Galvao put the littlest Nogueira on the defensive early. Luis recovered well and the two spent the rest of the round trading back and forth in a technical display with Galvao taking the round. The two continued the fast-paced action through the second round, until Galvao’s powerful right hand left Nogueira turtled and unable to defend. An emotional declared his desire to face Dudu Dantas for the Bellator Bantamweight championship in his post fight speech.
