In a May 2012 interview with Korean Top Team’s Chan Sang Jung, better known as “The Korean Zombie,” the featherweight contender spoke highly of his training partner Hyun Gyu Lim.
Anton Tabuena: Who do you think is the next Korean fighter we can look out for, and expect to be signed by the UFC in the near future?
Chan Sung Jung: There are a lot of talented fighters in Korea right now. If I had to choose one guy, I’d say it’s Hyun Gyu Lim. He’s another member of Korean Top Team who fights at welterweight. He’s really big and long, especially for a WW. He’s huge and really skilled all around. He’s probably the best all around fighter on our team, myself and Dongi Yang included! His fights are always exciting and he’s had 4 straight 1st-round KOs. Hopefully he’ll get the call from the UFC soon.
And he did get the call — sources close to Korean Top Team have informed Bloody Elbow that Hyun Gyu Lim (10-3) has signed a 4-fight contract with the UFC.
Nicknamed “The Ace,” Lim is a good-sized welterweight at 6’2″ and the current Pacific Xtreme Combat (PXC) welterweight champion. He’s also a strong finisher, racking up 7 of his 10 wins by TKO with 2 submissions. Lim is soaring on a 5-fight win streak, all of which were closed out in the 1st round.
Check out some fight footage of Lim in the full entry.
