Mike Swick defeated DaMarques Johnson by knockout (punch) at 1:20 of round one
Mike Swick made his long-awaited return to the UFC in style tonight against DaMarques Johnson. After a shaky first round where he was a little too interested in brawling and got stuck on the bottom for an extended period, he came out in the second and knocked out Johnson with one brutal punch immediately after a takedown. Swick had been out of the cage for two and a half years fighting a strange esophagus issue.
Swick landed a big overhard right to start that stunned Johnson. Swick didn’t pressure too much though, he just reset in the center. He followed it up with another nice right. Johnson responded with his own nice right that backed Swick up. Johnson pushed Swick to the ground and worked from top position. Swick popped back up and the two men threw down in the center. Swick was initially getting the best of it, but Johnson caught him at the end and got a takedown. Then advanced to mount. Johnson pounded on Swick against the cage, but Swick popped out and retained half guard. Johnson locked up a D’Arce choke, but let it go. Johnson finished with some elbows.
The two men started the second round with a more measured pace but still landed a few strikes each. Out of nowhere, Swick caught a Johnson kick and took him to the ground. Right as Johnson’s head hit the ground, Swick landed a massive right that put Johnson out. Two more brutal punches followed, but it was already over.
