Although Anderson Silva himself has remained mostly quiet on the subject, his manager Jorge Guimaraes has made it very clear that they do not believe there are any quality UFC contenders right now. Obviously, the other top Middleweight fighter’s do not agree. Just today, Chris Weidman said he expects to face Silva in his next fight. UFC 149 winner Tim Boestch jumped in the mix saying he could submit the champ, if needed. Brian Stann and Michael Bisping have also said they expect a title shot after their bout at UFC 152.
Today Guimaraes spoke to Tatame about the potential challengers calling out Silva and what bout he wants next:
That’s a big joke. Everybody saw that it worked for Chael, and he got really famous with that, and now everybody wants to be on the spotlight.
No opponent makes sense for Anderson at this moment. Unless we do a catchweight against Georges St. Pierre,” he suggests. “They didn’t offer the fight, but he’s the only one that could do a super fight. Anderson has the biggest paycheck in the UFC, and you can’t promote an event with these amateur kids that are coming up now
Like when they brought up Luke Rockhold, this is a deflective move. Silva and his management know that Georges St. Pierre already has a fight scheduled with Carlos Condit at UFC 154 in November. They mention GSP as a super fight, but neither Rashad Evans or Jon Jones, who have both been talked about regarding a super fight with Anderson. Most likely, Silva and his manager want to wait for the UFC and the “amateur kids” to figure out who the next contender should be while he takes some time off.
