Former Lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez confirmed today that he will be returning at least one more time to the Bellator cage. Alvarez told MMA Fighting today that he would be fulfilling the final fight on his contract for Bellator on October 15 at the Caesars Windsor Hotel and Casino in Windsor, Canada.
Alvarez has been a top ranked Lightweight for years now as he’s sat atop Bellator’s 155 lb division. Alvarez rose to prominence in the promotion as he ran through his first seven opponents, finishing 6 of them. At Bellator 58 last year, Michael Chandler turned the tables on him with a 4th round submission. Alvarez recovered by avenging a previous loss against Shinya Aoki at Bellator 66.
Knowing that Alvarez has been nearing the end of his Bellator contract, many MMA fans have been wondering if Eddie will follow in the footsteps of Hector Lombard with a move to the UFC. So far, Eddie has been silent on the matter, but after October, it’ll be time for him to decide. Bellator will have 3 months after the fight to match any contract offers Alvarez receives.
