Making his UFC debut, Ryan Jimmo knocked out Anthony Perosh in just 7 short seconds. This highlight reel KO brings Jimmo’s unbeaten streak up to 17, with the only fight he’s ever lost being his very first. Perosh drops to 13-7 overall and 3-1 since dropping to Light Heavyweight.
Not a lot to break down here. At the bell, Perosh immediately began circling to Jimmo’s right. Jimmo quickly cut off his movement and sent a right hand passed the guard and on to Perosh’s chin. Jimmo leaped in to put the finishing touches on the stoppage and landed a couple strikes as Josh Rosenthal sprinted to stop the action. Many criticized Jimmo for putting on poor performance in his last couple fights, but last night he quieted all the critics.
What was the high point of this fight?
Obviously, the KO punch. Jimmo put a single right hand through “The Hippo’s” defense and Perosh was out long before he hit the mat.
Where do they go from here?
Much like Hector Lombard, Ryan Jimmo has made a pretty big name out of himself by reigning over the competition outside of the UFC. Last night, he got his chance to show it wasn’t all hype and he delivered emphatically. Coming off the fastest knock out in UFC Light Heavyweight history, the UFC are going to try to push Jimmo hard. A main card fight later this year against Thiago Silva makes a lot of sense for both fighters.
Going in to UFC 149, 40 year old Anthony Perosh seemed to be having a career renaissance. After getting beat by Mirko Filopovic, Perosh dropped down to 205 lbs. and reeled off three straight stoppage victories. Jimmo proved to do too much for him, but Perosh will continue to battle the Light Heavyweight lower tier, either sending them packing or welcoming them to the UFC.
Watch it now, later, or never?
Now. It’s a 7 second fight. You telling me you don’t have 7 seconds?
