It appears that Daniel Cormier will be stepping into a Strikeforce cage for the last time on September 29th in the Arco Arena in Sacramento. On last night’s Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy card, the promotion announced the show and that Cormier would be taking part. No opponent was named.
Cormier (10-0) won the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix by defeating Josh Barnett by unanimous decision back in May. He injured his hand in the bout and it was believed that he could be out for an extended period of time due to surgery, but it appears that he’s good to go. Barnett has one fight left in Strikeforce as well and is also recovering from a hand injury suffered in their bout. It is unknown at this time if he’ll be competing on the card too. Both men could move to the UFC after their respective fights.
The card will take place on the same day as UFC on Fuel 5, which will air in the afternoon in North America due to it taking place in the United Kingdom. The main event of that card sees Stefan Struve take on Stipe Miocic.
