Donald Cerrone made sure everyone knew he wanted to fight at UFC 150 in Denver, CO after his decision victory over Jeremy Stephens at UFC On FUEL 3. At the post fight press conference, Cerrone practically begged for the chance to fight in his home town. However, the UFC has been silent concerning his request until now. Just a week after his UFC 148 decision win against Fabricio Camoes, Melvin Guillard accepted Donald’s Twitter challenge for “someone to step up for Denver.” The two will face off at UFC 150 at the Pepsi Center in Denver, CO on August 11 as co-main event to the Lightweight title rematch between Benson Henderson and Frankie Edgar.
The UFC announced via Twitter:
Both Cerrone and Guillard are trying to regain traction in the Lightweight division. The Cowboy had an incredible 5 fights in 2011, going on a 4-fight win streak before being crushed by now number one contender Nate Diaz at UFC 141. This time last year, Melvin Guillard seemed on the verge of title contention with a 5-fight win streak under his belt. However, he was stopped in his tracks with two back-to-back submission losses to Joe Lauzon and Jim Miller at UFC 136 and UFC On FX 1, respectively. Now, with each fighter having one rebound win, the winner of this fight will be moving back toward the top of the division.
