Roger Gracie has dropped to middleweight, and will be fighting former UFC contender Keith Jardine this weekend as part of the Strikeforce card which also holds two title fights.
The Jiu Jitsu World Champion usually spends majority of his time training in London, England, but for this camp, he decided to switch things up and train in Black House along with a stacked roster of fighters. His most notable training partners are probably fellow BJJ legend, Andre Galvao, and former UFC Light Heavyweight champion, Lyoto Machida and his brother Chinzo, who are there preparing for a UFC on Fox 4 bout against Ryan Bader.
After the jump, key quotes on Gracie talking about how training with a guy like Machida would help both of them become “the perfect fighter”.
“I think we both have a lot to help each other” Gracie said as he talks about training with Machida, “Lyoto has great stand up. He has a background in Karate, but he’s able to put it very efficiently into MMA. He has great foot movement, and I think that’s exactly what I need. If I can implement and do what he has on my game, then I think I’ll be the perfect fighter”
“On the other hand, it’s the same thing. I come from a jiu jitsu background. If I’m able to help him a lot, if he can implement that to his game… He’s very complete in the stand up, and once he becomes very complete on the ground, he’ll be the perfect fighter also.”
