Everyone should have been expecting a heated stare down between UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva and challenger Chael Sonnen after the dramatic face off at the UFC 148 pre fight press conference a few days ago. On that day, Silva instigated by attempting to physically shove Sonnen, causing Dana White and co to get in between them and stop it escalating further. Tonight, after weighing in under the limit at 184lbs, Silva walked over to his 185lbs rival, got close again and whipped his right shoulder into the jaw of Sonnen.
Dana White and the UFC stage manager Burt Watson put themselves between the fighters, while both men’s entourage of trainers, coaches, and … Steven Seagal, looked on. Silva’s camp were motioned away, backtracking along the stage past the official NSAC weighing in scales, while Joe Rogan began interviewing Sonnen, who was visibly rubbing the side of his jaw that was struck.
