ShoFIGHT is putting on a decent looking card this weekend with bouts like Lyle ‘Fancy Pants’ Beerbohm vs. Marcus Aurelio and John Gunderson vs. Karo Parisyan in a welterweight title main event. There was a bout between former Ultimate Fighter winner Kendall Grove and Terry Martin scheduled for the card, but after Martin ran into some licensing issues, undefeated Strikeforce veteran Derek Brunson has stepped up to take the fight on short notice.
There has been some confusion over Brunson’s status with Strikeforce, but Derek has confirmed the following with Bloody Elbow:
- He got the call yesterday, so it is very short notice.
- He is still with Strikeforce. And the promotion allowed him to take this risky fight as they didn’t have anything else lined up for him.
- The fight will be at 190 pounds due to the late notice and his inability to make it down to 185 safely in that time.
Derek last fought in November on the undercard of the Britt vs. Sayers Strikeforce Challengers card, winning a decision over Nate James in a bit of an uneven performance. His record is currently 9-0 and Grove will represent the stiffest test of his career.
