An undisclosed injury suffered in training by Matt Riddle has paved the way for Matt Brown to step in as a replacement and fight Luis Ramos in a welterweight bout at next month’s UFC on FX 4 event in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Brown announced the booking on Twitter:
Just signed and sent bout agreement to fight Luis Ramos June 22nd in Atlantic City.
Brown is riding his first winning streak in nearly three years, with back-to-back wins against Chris Cope and Stephen Thompson. Although rarely in a boring fight, Brown is often criticized for his inability to find success against anyone but the weakest fighters in the UFC, but he has seemed to refocus his game lately, particularly after snuffing out the hype surrounding Thompson.
Ramos, a veteran of the Brazilian regional circuit and a Shooto Brazil welterweight champion, suffered a quick KO loss to uber-prospect, Erick Silva, in his UFC debut last summer, and hasn’t fought since. He has now been scheduled to face Riddle twice, only to have it called off due to injury, and he’ll have less than a month to change up his training camp to prepare for Brown.
