Scott Coker hosted the Barnett vs Cormier Post Fight Press conference last night, with winners Daniel Cormier, Gilbert Melendez, Rafael Cavalcante and Chris Spang on stage to answer questions from the media. Josh Thomson was also present, but Josh Barnett was absent.
Coker remarked the show reminded him of Strikeforce events of of 2009 and 2010, being able to deliver great fights bell to bell. For him Thomson and Melendez could fight all the time, and compared them to the Sugar Ray Leonard and Tommy Hearns rivalry, as well as the Frank Edgar vs Gray Maynard series. Melendez remarked he’d rather not fight Thomson again, while Thomson states he’ll do whatever the promotion asks of him — even if that’s another match with Melendez.
Cormier is asked about the fight, and he couldn’t believe how tough Barnett was considering some of the shots Cormier landed on him. Cormier believed he re-broke his hand in the first round.
No information on gate numbers or any kind of fight bonuses were stated.
