Two of the UFC’s most promising young featherweights have agreed to face off at the June 1st finale event for the 15th season of The Ultimate Fighter, with UFC.com announcing the addition of Charles Oliveira vs. Jonathan Brookins to the card, earlier this evening
TUF 12 champ Jonathan Brookins will take on submission specialist Charles Oliveira. Brookins looked as good as ever in his last outing, as he knocked out his opponent in the first round. And in Olivera’s recent featherweight debut, he took only a few seconds longer to dispatch his opponent to earn a stunning submission win via the rarely-seen calf-crusher.
It’s no surprise that Brookins will get a spot on the finale card as he was the winner of the 12th season of TUF. Although he has mainly employed his relentless wrestling to gain victory in the past, Brookins shocked many when he knocked out Vagner Rocha in under two minutes back in February. Although the KO came from ground-and-pound, rather than improved striking, it was nonetheless impressive to see Brookins add another threat to his finishing arsenal.
With a dynamic striking game, and a propensity for hunting for submissions aggressively on the ground, Oliveira has gained a large fan-following at just 22 years of age. “Do Bronx’s” last fight was no different, as he pulled off the first calf slicer in UFC history to get the tap from Eric Wisely in his featherweight debut. The win also snapped a three-fight winless streak for the Brazilian.
