Ivan Menjivar was in serious trouble early in the fight as John Albert came out agressive as the first round began. When the fight was taken to the ground, Albert threatened with different variations of armbars, ensuring that Menjivar had to remain on the defensive. Menjivar survived and was able to regain his feet but Albert continued to press the action. The fight was close to a TKO stoppage when John Albert teed off on the Canadian fighter with punches and knees. The referee let Menjivar fight through adversity, though few would complain if the fight was stopped at that moment.
It was Albert’s lack of experience that was the true difference maker as he decided to attempt a guillotine choke while Menjivar was still hurt from his strikes. The guillotine failed and Menjivar quicly took Albert’s back and sunk in a rear naked choke. The Ultimate Fighter contestant was forced to tap.
