Alistair Overeem defeats Brock Lesnar by TKO at 2:26 in the first round.

Brock Lesnar threw a leg kick to open the round and then a jab. Brock closed the distance looking for a takedown and Overeem just missed a looping overhand right. Brock’s second takedown attempt was unsuccessful and he was kneed twice to the body by Alistair Overeem. Spring knee from Alistair Overeem buckles Lesnar. A kick to the body dropped Lesnar and then Overeem swarmed with punches forcing Mario Yamasaki to call the fight. On the replay it showed that the kick to the body landed to the liver. Most of the punches were blocked but Brock wasn’t attempting to fight back, just survive.

Brock Lesnar entered the fight 4-2 in the UFC and 5-2 overall. He had been out of the cage for over a year after a second bout with diverticulitis. Alistair Overeem successfully made his UFC debut on a seven fight winning streak. He is 36-11 in his career. With the victory he earns a title shot against Junior Dos Santos.
