Stephan Bonnar dominated Kyle Kingsbury on the ground to win the unanimous decision at UFC 139. Judges scored the fight 30-27, 30-27, and 30-25. It was Bonnar’s first fight this year after a pretty busy 2010. Bonnar is a former Illinois golden gloves boxer and member of the legendary Carlson Gracie fight team. He came up short in his attempt at being the season one Ultimate Fighter in a classic fight against Forrest Griffin.
For three rounds Stephan Bonnar controlled the fight on the ground using his high level grappling skills to negate the athleticism of Kyle Kingsbury. Moving from guard to side control to north-south, he was active with punches and submission attempts. While the crowd was booing the display, it was one of the best performances of Bonnar’s UFC career.
He’s won three fights in a row and is 8-6 in the UFC. He’s 14-7 overall. Kyle Kingsbury is now 4-2 in the UFC and 11-3 (1) in his career. After the fight Bonnar apologized to Josh Koscheck for making t-shirts in his likeness.
