Bantamweights are the latest addition to UFC 143 on Superbowl weekend in Las Vegas. Alex Caceres will face off against Edwin Figueroa in a bout announced by the UFC tonight:
A fan-friendly scrap is on tap with Edwin Figueroa set to throw down with Alex “Bruce Leeroy” Caceres at UFC 143 in Las Vegas on February 4th. “Both fighters are coming off impressive victories in the bantamweight division,” said UFC president Dana White. Verbal agreements are in place for the bout.
The fight should deliver on the promise of being fan-friendly as neither competitor has been in a boring fight in their respective UFC stints. Caceres shocked many last weekend at the UFC on Fox show as he was written off a heavy underdog to seasoned veteran, Cole Escovedo, only to come in and batter Escovedo, controlling him for all three rounds en-route to a career-rejuvenating unanimous decision.
Figueroa made fans take notice in his UFC, when, as a very short notice replacement, he was expected to be cannon fodder for the highly-touted Michael McDonald, only to put on a fight-of-the-night-winning performance despite losing the decision to McDonald. Figueroa followed that up with a one-sided thrashing of Jason Reinhardt in August, and will now have the chance to face Caceres, who’s just as adept as “El Feroz” at putting on a show for the fans.
