An all-Brazilian featherweight bout has been added to the UFC 142 card in Rio, according to the Canadian Press. Canadian resident, but Brazilian-born, Antonio Carvalho will finally make his long-awaited UFC debut against Felipe Arantes:

Canadian featherweight Antonio (Pato) Carvalho is slated to make his UFC debut against Felipe Arantes at UFC 142 on Jan. 14 in Rio de Janeiro.

Carvalho has gotten notice from hardcore MMA fans for a long time, mainly for his win over the top-ranked Hatsu Hioki back in 2007, but also for strong performances on both the Canadian circuit and in Shooto in Japan. The BJJ black belt was originally supposed to debut at the last Rio event back in August, but an injury forced him off the card.

Arantes, a student of Jorge Patino and a training partner of Charles Oliveira, was actually Carvalho’s replacement at UFC 134, and took on Yuri Alcantara on short notice, losing a competitive but clear-cut decision. Now with a full training camp behind him, Arantes will look for his first win against the dangerous Carvalho.

Antonio “Pato” Carvalho (13-4)
Win Doug Evans (unam. decision) – Score Fighting Series
Win Juan Barrantes (KO) – W1 MMA: Judgement Day
Win Eddie Fyvie (unam. decision) – W1 MMA: Bad Blood

Felipe “Sertanejo” Arantes (13-4)
Loss Yuri Alcantara (unam. decision) – UFC 134
NC Andy Main – UCC 4
