Mike Massenzio got a much needed win at UFC 136, winning a unanimous decision over Steve Cantwell. Cantwell looked to be on his way to a dominant victory through the first round. Massenzio responded from getting busted up in the first by throwing a near non-stop stream of left hands which Cantwell never adjusted to. By the final horn

One judge somehow scored the first round for Massenzio but it didn’t really matter as he earned the decision. The official scorecards were 30-27, 29-28 and 29-28.

What was the high spot of this fight?

Watching the adjustment after the first round. Massenzio came out and once he realized that the left hand was landing with ease, he never stopped throwing it.

Where do these guys go from here?

Massenzio still has some work to do to prove himself as a long-term UFC fighter. He’s now got a 2-3 record in the UFC and likely has to put in a little more time on the prelims. But his ability to make and stick to an in-fight adjustment may bode well for his future.

Cantwell has now lost four straight fights and it’s time to let him go. From the last WEC light heavyweight champion to a constant disappointment in the UFC, it’s just not a good story.

Watch it now, later, or never?

Later. There are better fights to watch from the evening but there were worse too.
