The UFC has scheduled a media conference call for 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT today to promote next weekend’s UFC 136 card on Pay Per View featuring Frankie Edgar defending his lightweight belt against Gray Maynard. Edgar and Maynard are scheduled to participate on the call as well as the co-main event title fight competitors Jose Aldo and Kenny Florian. Once the four title fight participants exit the call the UFC will bring Chael Sonnen and Brian Stann in to answer media questions. UFC President Dana White is not listed as a participant according to the press release.
Follow Matthew Roth on twitter for the instant updates. Following the call I will post the tweets to this page for everyone else to see. Next weekend’s event is the UFC’s return to Texas and the third fight between Edgar and Maynard.
With the UFC’s extremely busy fight schedule, there has been less time between media calls than normal. I’d expect for Chael Sonnen to provide some great sound bites and for the title competitors to build their fights in a respectful manner.
Twitter updates will be after the jump…
Frankie Edgar
I’ve been training for the same opponents for the past 2 years now with BJ Penn and Gray. I’m used to it at this point.
I try and come into every fight with a chip on my shoulder
Gray Maynard
Unique circumstance fighting the same guy and having the same training camp.
Jose Aldo
It was a great night. First fight in the UFC. Defending his belt was wonderful.
Florian will be well prepared and you know he’ll be a solid opponent.
After UFC Rio there has been a lot of respect given to the fighters.
Kenny Florian
Looks like a talented group of guys on TUF. Look good for sure.
Issue is finding training partners along the way to featherweight.
I’ve made a lot of mistakes and I’m happy for them. They’ve allowed me to improve as a fighter.
Aldo is a much different opponent. More of a kicker.
Chael Sonnen
I get sick before every fight. I think everyone does.
I’ve never been excited to fight. I’ve been envious of guys who can do that. I’m happy but I have a matter of fact approach.
A lot of what I say is for fun with the media. No one wants to fight Brian. If he quit beating everyone I wouldn’t have to fight him
Beating Okami makes it hard to deny Anderson’s skills. But I’ll never say he’s better.
I think Anderson ducks opponents constantly. His wins and losses speak for themselves.
I watch TUF. I wish the coaches wouldn’t act like fools and instead were giving knowledge.
You’re not sleeping as well when you have media obligations. I’ve had interviews at 7am ET which is 4am for me.
Brian Stann
Not disappointed that Chael hasn’t been talking crazy. I think our skills sell the fight.
I let go of my corporate real estate job. I couldn’t manage our lease portfolio. So I am doing Hire Heros.
I finally got a break. I had a baby before fighting Rodney Wallace. Spring/Summer 2010 allowed me to round out skills.
It means a lot that Chael is giving me that respect. He doesn’t mince words.
